Summary Life can turn on a dime—or stumble into the extraordinary, as it does for Jake Epping, a high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine. While grading essays by his GED students, Jake reads a gruesome, enthralling piece penned by janitor Harry Dunning: fifty years ago, Harry somehow survived his father’s sledgehammer slaughter of his entire family. Jake is blown away...but an even more bizarre secret comes to light when Jake’s friend Al, owner of the local diner, enlists Jake to take over the mission that has become his obsession—to prevent the Kennedy assassination. How? By stepping through a portal in the diner’s storeroom, and into the era of Ike and Elvis, of big American cars, sock hops, and cigarette smoke... Finding himself in warmhearted Jodie, Texas, Jake begins a new life. But all turns in the road lead to a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald. The course of history is about to be rewritten...and become heart-stoppingly suspenseful

SRP 2012 REVIEW: Not a typical Stephen King book. No boogiemen here. Just surrealism. A man discovers he can change history by using a porthole into the past. Each time he comes out at Sept 9 1958. He decides to change events to help others. He spends 5 years in the past trying to see if Lee Harvey Oswald really the sole JFK's assassin, and has to decide to stop the assasination, or if it's best to let things run their course. However, he finds time doesn't want to be messed with, and there are consequences.

SRP 2012 REVIEW: Really a cool twist on a thought everyone has at one time or another -If I went back in time, could I change bad events?

SRP 2012 REVIEW: This was my first Stephen King novel, and I thought it was excellent. It was very long, but it went by very quickly because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. It was a fascinating book, and I can't wait to read more by Stephen King.

SRP 2012 REVIEW: Really kept my interest for most of it -- I love time travel. But didn't like the near-ending when the "Green Card Man" tried to explain how it all worked, and I couldn't stand his vision of the recreated-future. Also was disappointed he didn't try to go back & have a life w/ his love.

SRP 2012 REVIEW: I liked this one a lot. I'm not a huge King fan, though I enjoyed the Dark Tower series and The Stand, but this one grabbed me right away. Any time travel book needs strict rules or it just becomes silly, this had a very interesting set of controls to how the time travel worked which made for a compelling story.

SRP 2012 REVIEW: Great story. Interesting to see how when we try to change things, it ends up affecting many other things. Make you realize maybe the past is better just left alone.
