Summary By the early 1920s, the influence of American jazz was apparent all over Europe. Musicians wore out the latest imported 78s as they picked up the new language, then went on to absorb what they had heard into their own ways of playing. That in turn gave birth to new styles that soon attracted audiences back in the US. And when Jewish musicians -- not least Kurt Weill -- began fleeing the Nazis in the 1930s, America was often where they ended up, already wise to the requirements of Hollywood and Broadway. In this collection of the band's favorite numbers, many of the songs are American standards, which Max Raabe and his Palast Orchester present in their unique 1920s/30s German style. Max Raabe & Palast Orchester are famous for keeping the shellac style alive. Here they give us an idea of what might have developed without the Nazi suppression of so much German culture. A glimpse, perhaps, of a lost "Golden Age".
