Mickey wants to retire. He has grown bored and frustrated by his life as a Secret Agent. He doesn't want any sort of new assignment, but when his old pal Terry asks him to help a friend of his, it doesn't seem like too big an ask. All Mickey has to do is delver the Chinese man to a farmhouse in Lancashire. How hard can that be? It isn't as if someone is about to kill him, is it? No, but when the man transported pulls a gun and tries to kill someone else, well then, Mickey really is confused. In the days that follow, there are more things revealed, not least the fact that the man at the farm is just one part of a worldwide computer network, building and designing new chips. Is that why people want them dead? Also, the elected Mayor of Greater Manchester is asking Mickey's old boss, Captain Gibson, to investigate Globalisation, which he feels is a threat to the peace and future of his county. How can one local British Mayor face down the economies of the world? Of course, there is a link. An ex-employee of the Unit is now one of the most powerful businessmen in the North West. What is he up to now? What is his grand plan for the future, and will it impinge on local politicians? The tension builds to a cliff-hanging climax. Has Mickey finally met his match? Is he just going to be left dangling? |
