Two fifth grade girls keep a journal of their experiments and observations as they struggle to discover the secret to becoming one of the popular girls. When the girls, Lydia and Julie, campaign for different girls in a school election, they stop speaking to one another. The author shows the obsessive tween temperament and how small moments and comments can dominate a tween’s thoughts. The journal is illustrated in doodles from both girls making it a colorful, fast paced read. Grades 4 – 6. ab

SRP 2013 REVIEW: I liked this book because it was very engaging and there was never a boring portion that I had to skip through. Also, because it was like a diary, I was able to hear the honest opinions of both girls.
