SRP 2011 REVIEW: Fascinating! How do we talk to people? Why? How do choose who to talk to - and when, where, what about? In a nutshell: Why do we act the ways we do? Perhaps the single drawback of Brooks' otherwise phenomenal work is his use of fictional characters to illustrate the examples outlined in the studies he cites. Before reading this, I suggest that you sample some of Brooks' columns - he's a regular Op-Ed columnist for the New York Times. Despite our differing political views, I must say that I love Brooks' writing, arguments, and of course, The Social Animal. Great read!

Brooks takes very complex material -- research findings, new brain organization theories -- and presents them in an easy to understand manner. He even makes a few jokes! If you're following positive psychology there's nothing new here but his writing style helps bring clarity to diverse findings.
