SRP 2013 REVIEW: I just discovered this author and couldn't put this book down. While it's a fiction the book is very much based on her grandmother's life growing up on ranches in the west during the 1920s through the depression. Would have loved to have met Lily!

SRP 2011 REVIEW: I love the style of Walls' writing and the way she is able to effectively tell a factual story with the voice and prose of the character herself. She spins quite the enchanting tale in every chapter, making you want to keep reading all the way through.

SRP 2011 REVIEW: Another amazing true story by the author of Glass Castles. Jeannette writes about her grandmother Lily who was as tough as the ranch she lived on. A fascinating look into what the Southwest was like for homesteaders and ranchers 75 years ago.

SRP 2010 REVIEWS (5): #1) Wow, really wonderful memoir of a really strong, brave, independent woman in the early 1900's. Beautifully written. #2) A great follow up to The Glass Castle. The story of her Grandmother how strong and resilliant she was as a woman and person. She rallied throughout her life in the worst situations. An easy read, finished it quickly. #3) A wonderful story of the author's grandmother's life in the early 1900's. A fiesty, independent woman filled with many adventures. Written in the first person and full of stories to make you laugh and cry. #4) This is a "true-life novel" based on the story of Jeanette's grandmother, a spunky spirit named Lily. We follow her from her family's dirt dugout in Texas to her independent life in Arizona to Chicago and back west. You follow her through storms, the Depression and life's ups and downs. #5) I loved the book. Jeannette Walls' grandmother was quite a woman - full of spunk.
