SRP 2012 REVIEW: This book has been assigned to the sophomores as summer reading where I teach. It is very graphic and bloody. The author tells his accounts of fighting for both sides in the Sierra Leone conflict. I did not realize the brainwashing that occurs to these young men from the army and from the rebels. I knew that rebel fighting in Africa was fierce, but in now way did I know the horrors that Beah and others experienced. There is a surprise twist at the end, just when you think he is safe...
