SRP 2012 REVIEW: This was a wonderful book about what the life of a boy in France during the Nazi occupation. It is written at a level simple enough for upper elementary, but the simple text transfers powerful emotions and experiences. Events of the author's relations are woven into this fictional account, which is explained in the author's note. The author gives a glimpse of the tragedy and cruelty of the time without overloading the sensibilities of the young.

SRP 2012 REVIEW: This was a great book! The author immediately brings you into the suspenseful story of Gustave, a young Jewish boy growing up during the Nazi invasion of France in WWII. His family moves out to the country, feeling it will be safer than in the city, forcing Gustave to leave all his friends behind. As you follow him through his adventure, one learns what it was like for the Jews during WWII. Indeed, this is a wonderful historical fiction novel that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys adventure or suspense.

SRP 2012 REVIEW: I loved this story, it was so inspirational and it gave readers the knowledge of how people adapt to a new country. In this case, it was a jewish family from Paris, France settling to America. It was a perilous journey, with the interference of the war.
