Summary
Although first settled in 1831, Naperville was incorporated in 1857, when the first official records of the village were kept. This document includes the articles of incorporation as a village and the minutes of village council meetings through April 26, 1870. Hand-written records have been transcribed and indexed by name and subject to facilitate research into the unfolding of the progress and activities of the community through its civic leaders. Naperville's founders and early settlers, businesses and ordinances of this period are revealed in the context of civic debate.
