Summary URBAN ROOTS tells the story of the spontaneous emergence of urban farming in the city of Detroit. Once an industrial powerhouse, Detroit is devastated by the loss of half its population due to the collapse of manufacturing. By the looks of it, the city has died. But now, in empty lots and old factory yards, seeds of change are taking root. Citizens are reclaiming spirits by growing food, starting a movement that is transforming not just a city, but also America at the end of its industrial age.
