For a young designer, with the burden and benefit of a famous name, Stella McCartney’s start in business was inauspicious. Taking over the reigns of Chloe from designer Karl Lagerfeld would have been overwhelming for most young designers, but for Stella, ignorance was bliss. In 2001 Tom Ford’s Gucci group offered Stella the chance to return to designing a line under her own name.
