Summary Ardensville Kansas, 1924. Jessy Faber, the switchboard operator in this small town, can't believe that the Ku Klux Klan has come to such a small, placid, beautiful town, yet that seems to be the case. The Klan is out to get anyone that they believe is not 100% American. Jessy's friends are among the townspeople being persecuted. Though Jessy has always been a shy "morning glory' type she discovers unexpected strength in herself as she confronts the Klan. And as a result, she also finds that she now has the means to face a personal crisis from deep in her past.
