SRP 2010 REVIEWS (4): #1) Not his best #2) I wanted to enjoy this book more than I did. I was expecting more of a fun adventure tale ("Jurassic Park" meets "Pirates of the Caribbean") but the story was rather dark and none of the characters were particularly likeable. The writing was still really good and the details of the setting were well done, but overall not one of Crichton's better works. #3) This is a good and fun novelization of what it might have been like being a pirate or privateer in the 1600s. If you like the intricacies of sailing and the dangers and adventures of piracy, you'll like this. #4) A good story. Not as involved as some of his other books. A quick summer read.
