SRP 2011 REVIEW: This story is often viewed as the first masterpiece in English literature. While it is sometimes hard to relate to because it was written so long ago, certain themes in the book are present in many fantasy and heroic stories today. It is fun to look for the ways in which this story inspired more recent ones such as The Lord of the Rings and Eragon. I noticed many similarities, including character names in Eragon that were borrowed straight from Beowulf.
