Summary It begins with an 80-year-old mystery. Three men, a father and his two sons, vanished while working as laborers on a dangerous project to build the first road through the Florida Everglades. Now, years later, a series of letters are unexpectedly discovered by a descendant of these men. Driven by the need to know what happened to these lost members of the family, he starts asking questions, and is quickly stonewalled. With nowhere else to turn, he enlists the help of former Philadelphia police officer, Max Freeman.
