With the guidance of coach Ben Schwartzwalder, Ernie would develop from an impressive high school athlete into a college legend. Ernie would become the first black to win the Heisman Trophy. Refusing to play by the unspoken racist rules of the day, Ernie broke through one barrier after another to alter the way football fans looked at black men. Following his draft by the NFL, he was struck by a terrible blow in the prime of his life. Ernie would join the ranks of black pioneers who inspired a civil rights movement that smashed barriers on and off the playing field. 521 8 MPAA rating: PG; for thematic content, violence and language involving racism, and for brief sensuality. 538 DVD, anamorphic widescreen (2.40:1); Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, single-sided. 546 English or dubbed Spanish dialogue, French or Spanish subtitles; English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. 600 10 Davis, Ernie,|d1939-1963|vDrama. 610 20 Syracuse Orange (Football team)|vDrama|vVideodiscs. 650 0 African American football players|zNew York (State) |zSyracuse|vDrama|vVideodiscs. 650 0 Football coaches|zNew York (State)|zSyracuse|vDrama |vVideodiscs. 650 0 Heisman Trophy|vDrama|vVideodiscs. 650 0 DVDs. 655 7 Feature films.|2lcgft 655 7 Video recordings for the hearing impaired.|2lcgft 655 7 Sports films.|2lcgft 700 1 Davis, John. 700 1 Leavitt, Charles. 700 1 Fleder, Gary. 700 1 Brown, Rob,|d1984- 700 1 Quaid, Dennis. 700 1 Henson, Darrin Dewitt. 700 1 Miller, Omar Benson. 700 1 Ellis, Nelsan. 700 1 Dutton, Charles S. 700 1 Gallagher, Robert C.|tErnie Davis. 710 2 Davis Entertainment Company. 710 2 IDEA Filmproduktions (Firm) 710 2 Relativity Media. 710 2 Universal Studios Home Entertainment (Firm) 730 0 Express (Motion picture)
