Summary The disappearance forty years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden, gnaws at her octogenarian uncle, Henrik Vanger. He is determined to know the truth about what he believes was her murder. He hires crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist, recently at the wrong end of a libel case, to get to the bottom of Harriet's disappearance. Lisbeth Salander, a twenty-four-year-old, pierced, tattooed genius hacker, possessed of the hard-earned wisdom of someone twice her age--and a terrifying capacity for ruthlessness--assists Blomkvist with the investigation. This unlikely team discovers a vein of nearly unfathomable iniquity running through the Vanger family, an astonishing corruption at the highest echelon of Swedish industrialism--and a surprising connection between themselves.

SRP 2012 REVIEW: WONDERFUL BOOOOOOOOOOK. Great psychological thriller, mysterious love story, and a great read. Movies definately didn't give this trilogy justice, though.

SRP 2011 REVIEW: It was not one of my favorite books. It seemed to have too many psychotic characters for my taste.

SRP 2011 REVIEW: After seeing the original Swedish movie and being in anticipation for the upcoming American remake, I picked this book up expecting a riveting read. Boy, was I right. The book is incredibly smart, suspensful, and hard to put down. However, a note for casual readers, this is not a book for a feeble mind. There are many moments when the reader can feel very uncomfortable, and can be a major turn-off for many people. These didn't really bother me (since I already saw the film (twice)). The book really follows the same basic narrative structure of the movie, so people who are on the fence about film adaptations, don't fret. Minus a few instances of things being slightly placed chronologically out of order and couple minor (a word I can't stress enough) changes, the movie follows just like the book. If you really want to deviate from the norm and still get an unforgettable reading expierience, pick this book up.

SRP 2011 REVIEW: Hard to get into. Many of my friend had read the book and said you have to read it too. Probably because the wanted to see me suffer throught the first 200 pages. But then it got good, and made me want to finish the book as well as the trillogy

SRP 2010 REVIEWS (15): #1) Interesting characters. Can't wait to see who they cast for the movie. #2) Loved it! Great story that keeps you interested in the mystery right up to the end. #3) Great thriller & good summer read. #4) very intense at times. interesting story. hard to put down. #5) I think the title promises more of a piece of literature than the suspense novel it delivers. But still a good read overall and I fully plan on reading the other two books in the series. That said, I found some of writing style a bit annoying in that it includes unnecessary details at times. For example is it really necessary to have phrases like "... accessed the internet using Mikhail's ADSL modem ...?" I think "accessed the internet" would be sufficient. #6) Very good - Full of suspense and intrigue. #7) This was an awesome book! The characters are so well developed, you feel like you know them. Yes, it is quite graphic in parts, but it works with the story line. I couldn't wait to get to the next one. #8) So many people raved about this book that I just had to read it. I found the beginning slow going, but once the two plot lines merged it took off. Larsson's a great story teller. I can't wait to read his other books. #9) Fascinating, horrifying, touching...read this after seeing the movie, but it's still captivating. #10) Read the book for book club, it took me nearly halfway through to get into the rhythm of it. Very laid back style. Characters are interesting. Glad to see the characters and relationships continue in the next book. Even tho I enjoyed the book and will read the rest of the series, would like to hear other thoughts about what's made the series so popular? I recommend it, at least so you know what everyone is reading. #11) Very engaging mystery about a man hired to investigate the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl which occured 30 years ago. All relatives of the girl were suspects in the disappearance until further facts were revealed and the mystery was solved. #12) Fascinating! Have the next two books of his on hold! #13) This is a wonderful book. The characters are interesting and well developed. The story unfolds beautifully and there are plenty of surprises. So, if you enjoy a great murder mystery, you will love this book. #14) Nice, but not nearly worth the hype. I was hoping for much more detail and depth to these characters and mainly this too good to be true anti-hero. I just wish she had more of a backstory or made me care about any of these too beautiful leads. I can think of some better page turners. Excellent marketing, but much too surface-y. #15) Fantastic - and i just saw the movie too - strong recommendations for this one.
