Summary Winner of more than twenty-five top honors from film festivals around the world, revered Chinese director Wu Tianming's THE KING OF MASKS is a poignant tale about how a lonely old magician and a luckless little girl are boung together by fate and suffering, and redeemed by the power of love. Old man Wang (Zhu Xu) is a gifted street performer who excels at the ancient art of face-changing. While the intricate play of masks and slight-of-hand has been in his family for generations, it will be lost forever unless the aging master can conjure up amale heir to whom he can pass on his unique skill. Wang, who lost his only son decades ago, longs to adopt a little who could become the next "King of Masks." Wang is about to abandon all hope of finding an heir when he comes upon little Doggie (Zhou Ren-ying), an adorable 7-year-old being sold by his destitute father. After years of loneliness and sorrow, the elderly magician can't believe his luck and showers his newly adopted grandson with all his love and attention--imagine his shock when he discovers a few weeks later that Doggie is really a girl.
