no other travel guide like it! X
September 12 2011
There is no other travel guide like this! Part tour of the city, part illustrated journal, this utterly whimsical artistic record of the French author/artist's time spent in Tokyo is a fun exploration for the reader, whether you are planning on visiting the city or not! The neighborhood maps, drawn in exquisite detail in sprightly colors, make special note of shops of interest, as well as citations like "This is where I got a warning for crossing at a red light" (he and the police seemed to have clashed a few times regarding bicycle-related issues). The renderings of buildings, street-scenes, people in the neighborhood and every-day goings-on, as well as other unusual events, vary from amazingly realistic to humorously cartoonish. Anyone interested in Japanese culture should look at this book. You might also like "Squeamish About Sushi" and "A Year in Japan," two other artistic takes on that country.
