Summary The charming story of Dewey Readmore Books, the beloved library cat of Spencer, Iowa.
The story of Dewey Readmore Books, the beloved library cat, starts in the worst possible way. Only a few weeks old, on the coldest night of the year, he was stuffed into the book return slot at the Spencer, Iowa, Public Library. He was found the next morning by library director, Vicki Myron, a single mother who had survived the loss of her family farm, a breast cancer scare, and an alcoholic husband. Dewey won her heart, and the hearts of the staff, by pulling himself up and hobbling on frostbitten feet to nudge each of them in a gesture of thanks and love. For the next nineteen years, he never stopped charming the people of Spencer with his enthusiasm, warmth, humility (for a cat), and, above all, his sixth sense about who needed him most.--From publisher description.

SRP 2013 REVIEW: Overall, Dewey was a great book that would be especially enjoyed by pet lovers. This cat's story is certainly exceptional, and Myron's descriptive style tells it beautifully. Like all pet books, it can get a little sappy, making my fellow cynical readers get a little annoyed (Okay, he was a great cat; let's move on). What won this story over for me, however, was the Iowa references. My family has visited the Spencer area for generations and it made me a little proud to see references to destinations like Lake Okoboji. A great book even if you're not a cat lover!

SRP 2010 REVIEW: When a little orange kitten shows up in the Spencer Public Library's book drop, the staff have no idea how their lives and the lives of their patrons would change. An enjoyable read for cat lovers and/or library lovers.
