SRP 2010 REVIEW: I really did not care for the book. It is LONG, over wordy, and I don't get the point of it. It doesn't seem to have a plot: the story doesn't go anywhere! It is essentially a character study of 4 different people who interact daily with a deaf/mute in a small mining town in the 1940s. It is praised to be a phenomenal look at the "human spirit" - but I just didn't get it.
