SRP 2013 REVIEW: A creative and slightly creepy novel - should be considered a must read for all those who love reading! The premise is an offer to a bookworm/book shop owner to write a never before told biography of a famous author. The previously untold story is an entrancing mystery.

SRP 2012 REVIEW: I enjoyed the creative way the author paralleled the life story of the mysterious character Vida Winter and the biographer she hires , Margaret. The gothic tale she tells her creates mystery and suspend and plenty of interesting twists.

If you liked Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, you will like this book, too. It's a modern gothic novel - crumbling mansions, ivy-covered walls, creaky stairs, and no TVs or radios. Just cars (a brougham, like a carriage) and a telephone, which inevitably breaks down.I thought the story moved too slowly and the creepiness was overdone. The author gets bogged down in too much detail and dreamy descriptions. The story line needed to move along a little faster to its somewhat implausible conclusion. The characters were well-drawn, but overall, I thought the novel was just okay.
