Love & Other Drugs X
April 23 2011
Frankly, I expected a lot less from this film. I figured it would be a very formulaic romantic comedy with a terminal illness thrown in for dramatic tension. But no. It had surprising depth and heart. Jamie starts out as a soulless drug rep who falls for Maggie, who has early onset Parkinson's and thus keeps herself walled off from long-term emotional attachments. He, the ultimate one-night-stander and she, who's resistant to commitment, end up in a real relationship. Every time you think you know where the next plot point is going to become predictable, it takes you in a totally different direction. All romantic comedies should be this smart.
