Carley Connors is told that she is lucky to have gotten a placement as a foster child with the Murphy family. She still has the bruises from the beating her stepfather gave her and feels anything but lucky. The Murphys have three boys and Carley is not quite sure how a girl like her fits in a normal, happy family full of boys. The author writes her characters so well that I found myself both laughing and crying along with Carley’s struggles. Recommended for grades 4 – 7. ab
