SRP 2013 REVIEW: set on a slave-worked farm in Virginia during the late 1700's, early 1800's, it's an intriging story of how a little Irish girl was orphaned as her family tried to come to America for better opportunities. The ship's owner brings her home to work as a helper in his kitchen, so now she's working with slaves and finding them to be her beloved family while she still has opportunities as a free woman. As we read about the white and black families, we see the best and worst in people. Quick read and the story has good depth.

SRP 2012 REVIEW: Excellent story of an orphaned Irish girl in the late 1700's who comes to America and lives with the slaves on a plantation. She loves her black family and the author does a fabulous job of expressing the love and strength of these relationships. she must transition into the white works and deal with the conflicts her role in society presents.
