The Japanese have just bombed Pearl Harbor. Tetsu and his mother are sent to an internment camp in the desert. They must leave behind anything that doesn’t fit in two small bags which includes Tetsu’s beloved dog. Tetsu has been a star on his baseball team, but there’s no team at the camp. He doesn’t even have a bat. When a man arrives at camp who was a baseball coach, he starts a project to create a diamond and field a team. A story of hard times and the joys of team work and team play helping a kid cope with a life interrupted. Grades 4 – 6. ab

SRP 2013 REVIEW: I thought this book was very well written. It kept my interest because I liked learning about the Japanese-Americans during World War 2.

SRP 2012 REVIEW: Really enjoyed this book about a time in the US that we allowed fear to take over our better judgement. The characters went through a difficult time with dignity and honor. A type of historical fiction.
