Mountain Dog is fiction that reads like a fast-paced adventure, complete with wilderness survival tips, search and rescue dog teams, facts about hiking the Pacific Rim Trail, and handy facts about dealing with bears! It could be recommended as high interest, quick read fiction, since the book is written in free verse. This book combines fascinating science with a moving story about finding one's place in the world. Mountain Dog is based on the author's husband's work with search and rescue dogs, and could be useful in accomodating the new Common Core Standards. Grades 3-6 (cje)
