SRP 2013 REVIEW: Fantastic! Fiction based on the author's life in China of a peasant farmer, Wang Lung, and his life from taking a wife while caring for his elderly father, the family's rise among the peasants to riches, to full cycle when Wang is now elderly and being cared for by his sons. MUST READ--a true classic!

SRP 2012 REVIEW: Fiction. The story of a poor Chinese family in China, farmers barely scraping by, who suffer poverty, floods, drought, and locusts, and war, who unexpectedly come into riches after fleeing their village to escape the harsh weather that is preventing them from getting in a crop. Then the cycle starts, and they become the hated rich people of the village. When will they ever learn? Fascinating, well written--a true classic!

SRP 2010 REVIEW: Fascinating! The author spent her childhood in China during the late 1920s and early 1930s. This is a work of fiction, but is dripping with the authenticity of that time and place. It's a story of dirt-poor peasants who suffer famine, war and natural disasters and finally come into unbelieveable wealth, and the destruction of the family it brings. Fascinating read!
