SRP 2013 REVIEW: This book provided a unique perspective on life during WWII, told through the eyes of a boy who grew up and escaped from a Nazi work camp. Having never before set foot outside the grey walls of the camp, David is faced with both the beauty and challenges of real life as a free boy. Unlike some of the other dark holocaust books that I have read, this historical book explores some more uplifting themes, such as beauty, love, and freedom. I did, however, feel that the book could have gone into greater detail at times, and I often felt like the book was rushed. The plot started off fairly slow (in my mind at least) but continued to grow more exciting as it went on.
