Summary In Oklahoma, after the death of ranch owner Sam Talbot, all of his possessions are willed to twelve-year-old Duke, a ward of Sam's foreman. With the whole of Talbot's estate going to his twelve-year-old ward, some family members seem upset. In town, newspaper editor Roy Rogers is left a book from Sam with a note asking him to investigate his death. He finds himself clashing with reporter Connie Edwards, who writes an article about the suspicion of foul play, but soon Roy must protect Duke from mysterious attacks.
