SRP 2012 REVIEW: A classic which I fear is watered down by the age at which most of us are exposed to it; ideas such as the government suppressing sexual energy and directing it to hero worship and war frenzy seems difficult for a school essay. Also the ideas of Oligarchical Collectivism and the forced reduction of living standards also seem complicated, but perhaps it's good to introduce difficult ideas. The idea of a government that is so entrenched that it can police your thoughts by directly monitoring your actions, speech, and even subtle facial expressions is ever more meaningful in a country where we carry phones which can be remotely turned into listening devices by the FBI even when powered down.

SRP 2011 REVIEW: It really examines what life in an ignorantly opressed nation at war is like. Definitely a classic, but I didn't like it that much.

SRP 2011 REVIEW: A great political satire about the Communist countries of the time. It provides very interesting speculation about the reality of the motives behind the Communist movements in the late 40's.

SRP 2011 REVIEW: This book is about the horrors of an all-powerfull government, who has the ability to use extreme propaganda to control its citizens. It's a wonderfull book with a haunting message.

SRP 2011 REVIEW: It's no surprise why this is a classic. It has a great narrative tone to it, while going into a concept that's really complex. The idea of "double think" is enough to make someone think for ages, and to think it's only a small part of the plot!

SRP 2010 REVIEW: In a dystopic future, the Party controls everyone's lives through a system of hidden cameras, hate, and suppression of all sex instinct. Read the book to discover George Orwell's 1949 warning of the evil communist future we guard against. And remember: Big Brother is always watching you.
