Summary |
In this film by Alfred Hitchcock, an actress in a touring company is discovered near the scene of the crime when a woman is found murdered. She is charged with murder, placed on trial and convicted on circumstantial evidence. One of the jury, however, Sir John Menier, believes in her innocence and sets out to prove it. His personal investigations take him to the touring company where he questions members of the cast and crew. He learns that a man's voice was overheard near the scene of the crime, on the night of the murder. He quests to track down the killer, on the way landing himself in an exciting climax in a circus tent. *"It remains a crucial insight into the development of one of the cinema's greatest artists, and so, is essential viewing."
