This compelling documentary of the IWW (or "The Wobblies" as they were known) tells the story of workers in factories, sawmills, wheat fields, forests, mines and on the docks as they organize and demand better wages, healthcare, overtime pay and safer working conditions. In some respects, men and women, Black and white, skilled and unskilled workers joining a union and speaking their minds seems so long ago, but in other ways, the film mirrors today's headlines, depicting a nation torn by corporate greed. Filmmakers Deborah Shaffer and Stewart Bird weave history, archival film footage, interviews with former workers (now in their 80s and 90s), cartoons, original art, and classic Wobbly songs (many written by Joe Hill) to pay tribute to the legacy of these rebels who paved the way and risked their lives for the many of the rights that we still have today. 521 8 Not rated. 538 Mode of access: World Wide Web. 610 20 Industrial Workers of the World|xHistory. 650 0 Labor leaders|zUnited States|vInterviews. 650 0 Labor union members|zUnited States|vInterviews. 650 0 Labor unions|zUnited States|xHistory. 650 0 Labor movement|zUnited States|xHistory. 655 7 Video recordings for the hearing impaired.|2lcgft 700 1 Bird, Stewart,|efilm director. 700 1 Shaffer, Deborah,|efilm director. 700 1 Baldwin, Roger N.|q(Roger Nash),|d1884-1981,|enarrator, |eon-screen participant. 700 1 Murphy, Joe,|d1905-1987,|eon-screen participant. 700 1 Miller, Violet, M.|eon-screen participant 700 1 Miller, Jack Leonard,|d-1986,|eon-screen participant 700 1 Lombardi, Irene,|eon-screen participant 700 1 Mignone, Dominick,|eon-screen participant 700 1 Scribner, Tom,|d1899-|eon-screen participant. 700 1 Fair, James,|c(Stevedores),|eon-screen participant. 700 1 Rocco, Angelo,|eon-screen participant 700 1 Cohen, Sophie,|eon-screen participant. 700 1 Peterson, Nels,|eon-screen participant 700 1 Hanson, Irv,|eon-screen participant 700 1 Pintek, Katie,|eon-screen participant 700 1 Steelink, Nicolaas,|d1890-1989,|eon-screen participant. 700 1 Shields, Art,|d1888-|eon-screen participant. 700 1 Thompson, Fred,|d1900-1987,|eon-screen participant. 700 1 Krieger, Sam,|eon-screen participant. 700 1 Konga, Vaino,|eon-screen participant. 700 1 Foudy, Mike,|eon-screen participant 700 1 Phillips, Utah,|eon-screen participant. 700 1 Sissel, Sandi,|evideographer. 710 2 hoopla digital. 856 40 |uhttps://www.hoopladigital.com/title/ 15986121?utm_source=MARC|zInstantly available on hoopla. 856 42 |zCover image|uhttps://d2snwnmzyr8jue.cloudfront.net/ kin_thewobblies_180.jpeg
