Summary "You only think you know this story. In 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer, the most notorious serial killer since Jack the Ripper, seared himself into the American consciousness. To the public, Dahmer was a monster who committed unthinkable atrocities. To Derf Backderf, 'Jeff' was a much more complex figure: a high school friend with whom he had shared classrooms, hallways, and car rides. In [this story], a haunting and original graphic novel, writer-artist Backderf creates a surprisingly sympathetic portrait of a disturbed young man struggling against the morbid urges emanating from the deep recesses of his psyche-- a shy kid, a teenage alcoholic, and a goofball who never quite fit in with his classmates. With profound insight, what emerges is a Jeffrey Dahmer that few ever really knew, and one readers will never forget."--Amazon.com.

SRP 2013 REVIEW: This book was an interesting look at the Jeffrey Dahamer, the seriel killer, as a teen. Every time I think of Dahmer, I wonder how any person could do what he did. This book helps to answer that question. It shows Dahmer as a troubled and lonely youth who came from a broken family and traveled through a school system where his problems were either never noticed or simply ignored. After reading this book, I wondered if Dahmer (and his victims) could have been spared if someone had ever taken the time to get involved in a this loner's life. This book could be used for a springboard to discussions of topics such as emotional problems, hish school social issues, and bullying. Warning: though there are no illustrations showing murder--except for that of a fish, it is hinted at, and there are illustrations of dead animals and skeletons, and some of the scenes are obviously disturbing. Though it is a graphic novel, it is not for young children!
