Charlie Joe is very proud of his ability to avoid reading at all costs. But now it’s time to write a major research report and his grade depends on it. Charlie Joe’s just had a falling out with the friend who used to read his books for him. He’s going to need a grand scheme to get someone else to read his research books. While it doesn’t seem like a librarian would love the boy who hates books, I found myself cheering for Charlie Joe and his schemes. Charlie Joe is funny, witty and trying to do the right thing – as long as the right thing doesn’t involve reading. Grades 3 – 6 . AB
