Summary King Henry II is far from being a saint. He reigns over a Medieval England festering with political conflict and occupies his days with drinking, pursuing woman and wagering war. His constant cohort in these escapes is Thomas Becket. Hoping to force the Church into subservience to the Crown, Henry appoints Becket to the post of Chancellor, and later Archbishop of Canterbury. Becket is reluctant at first, but soon experiences something he has never known before- honor, and a cause worthy of his adoration. His singular devotion to the Church creates an enormous rift with Henry, who is devastated at being abandoned by his friend. Once his former ally becomes a rival, Henry turns to drastic measures. In a catastrophic twist of fate, Becket's salvation becomes the source of his demise…
