Summary Increasing workforce diversity has become an inevitable fact of organizational life, but it is still unclear whether this increasing diversity has a positive or negative effect on organizational performance. Leaders seeking to manage diversity effectively should consider research findings that suggest that when the tasks to be performed are complex, diverse workgroups produce more creative and innovative solutions and achieve better results than workgroups that are more homogeneous; for less complicated tasks, however, the complex dynamics of a highly diverse workgroup can actually hinder the work process and lower performance.
