Summary Pit & the pendulum : A young man's search for the truth of his sister's death uncovers a bizarre and ghastly secret--and plunges him into a nightmarish torture devised by a notorious master of the Inquisition.
Masque of red death : Follows Prince Prospero's attempts to avoid a dangerous plague known as the Red Death by hiding in his abbey. He, along with many other wealthy nobles, has a masquerade ball within seven rooms of his abbey, each decorated with a different color. In the midst of their revelry, a mysterious figure enters and makes his way through each of the rooms.
Haunted Palace : It is 1765, and the villagers of Arkham discover strange goings-on at Joseph Curwen's mansion. He is kidnapping their young girls and mating them with creatures of the night to breed a master-race of supremely evil power. A century after his death, Curwen's great grandson appears in the village and his presence terrifies the villagers.
Fall of the House of Usher: A man buries his sister alive in the large family mansion but she returns after death to take her revenge.
Abominable Dr. Phibes: Long thought dead, the victim of a horrible accident, Dr. Anton Phibes still lives, surrounded by art-deco bric-a-brac and attended by mute beauty Vulnavia. Outwardly normal in appearance, Phibes actually wears a rubber mask, covering his hideously deformed countenance; giving away the artifice is the fact that, when he dines, he takes his food through his neck rather than his mouth. Able to speak only when plugging a wire into his damaged vocal chords, Phibes elucidates his plan to murder the medical team whom he holds responsible for the death of his wife.
Witchfinder General: 1645 sees England in the grip of a bloody civil war. The structure of law and order has broken down. During this climate of fear, self-styled witch hunter, Matthew Hopkins tours the country preying on innocent victims in the name of the Lord.
