520 The Dope Years: The Story of Latasha Harlins is a 19
minute documentary that explores and retells the life of
Latasha and how her death is directly connected to the Los
Angeles climate of the 1990s. Through reimagined scenes
from Latasha’s life, the audience gains insight into who
she was as a person and the impact she made on her
community. The Dope Years explores perspectives of those
who were children at the time and identifies the issues
that plagued the Los Angeles community in the 1990s.
