Summary |
Academy Award winners Peter Ustinov, Maggie Smith and Karl Malden star with Bob Newhart in this comic tale of a gentle con artist who goes high tech with a computerized scam to steal Hot Millions. Faced with the horror of working for a living, amiable swindler Marcus Pendleton (Ustinov-Spartacus, Death on the Nile) concocts a con game to fleece an Carlton J. Klemper's (Malden-Patton, On the Waterfront) corporation of millions by programming Klemper's computer to make regular payments to nonexistent companies. As the supposedly infallible computer begins paying handsome checks to phantom businesses, Marcus prospers and falls in love with scatterbrained Patty (Smith-The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Harry Potter films). But Klemper's faithful assistant Willard G. Gnatpole (Newhart-Elf, "Newhart") smells a swindle, and his investigation forces Pendleton and his love to happily flee to Rio with their ill-gotten gains. |
