He flees to the Texas panhandle with his girlfriend Abby and little sister Linda, where they work harvesting wheat in the fields of a stoic farmer. When Bill learns that the farmer is ill and has less than a year to live, he encourages Abby to accept the man's attentions. The farmer and Abby marry, and she and her "siblings" live in the big house, waiting for the farmer to die, so Abby can inherit. But love seems to be a cure- all: the farmer seems to be improving. And Abby is no longer seeing this as a marriage of convenience. 521 8 MPAA rating: PG. 538 Blu-ray disc, widescreen (1.78:1) presentation; Dolby DTS- HD Master 5.1 surround, 1080p High Definition; requires Blu-ray player. 546 English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. 586 Academy Award, 1978, for Best Cinematography (Nestor Almendros); Cannes Film Festival Best Director (Terrence Malick) 1979. 650 0 Man-woman relationships|vDrama|vVideodiscs. 650 0 Farmers|zTexas|vDrama|vVideodiscs. 650 0 Triangles (Interpersonal relations)|zTexas|vDrama |vVideodiscs. 650 0 Blu-ray discs. 655 7 Western films.|2lcgft 655 7 Video recordings for the hearing impaired.|2lcgft 655 7 Feature films.|2lcgft 690 ACADEMY AWARD WINNERS, 1978. 700 1 Schneider, Bert,|d1933-2011. 700 1 Schneider, Harold. 700 1 Malick, Terrence,|d1943- 700 1 Gere, Richard,|d1949- 700 1 Adams, Brooke,|d1949- 700 1 Shepard, Sam,|d1943-2017 700 1 Manz, Linda,|d1961- 700 1 Wilke, Robert J.,|d1914-1989. 700 1 Morricone, Ennio. 700 1 Kottke, Leo. 710 2 Paramount Pictures Corporation (1914-1927) 710 2 Criterion Collection (Firm) 830 0 Criterion collection (Blu-ray discs) ;|v409.
