Summary |
"Elena Chudinova's new novel is dedicated to those who died and survived in besieged Leningrad. The tragic fate of a young girl is intertwined with the most important events of the era. The novel is in two parts. The first part, "Life in the shadow of the Anchar", describes Lena's life before the war. It tells about the Engelhardt-Gumilev family, about the pre-war decade in the history of the city. Book two, "Bone Hand", is about courage and death. During the blockade, Lena's relatives perish: grandmother, grandfather, mother ... A close friend Yuri Zadonsky perishes, performing a feat. The girl is left alone. What happens to her - on the last day of her earthly existence? Something extraordinary is about to happen to her. After all, she is the Poet's Daughter." -- Title page verso, and back cover. |
