The Book of Psalms is of a collection of one hundred and fifty prayers, poems and hymns. Some of the psalms were composed for liturgical use in the temple, others were for private reading; in some the singer is an individual, in others a group. The Book of Proverbs is a collection of several collections of sayings that deal with many practical matters of daily life as well as one's relationship to the Lord. Ecclesiastes, whose author may have been Solomon, laments the emptiness of his riches. The Song of Solomon is a series of lyric poems on romantic love. |
