Summary |
Teachers of adolescents are under enormous pressure to cover more content in their disciplines, to make instruction more relevant to students, and to help students acquire the reading skills they need to succeed on standardized tests and beyond. In this video set, high school teacher Cris Tovani brings viewers into her school and classroom and shows how she and her colleagues are meeting the challenge of improving students' reading skills across the curriculum. The videos demonstrate Cris working with students using texts from different disciplines as well as collaborating with colleagues throughout the school. About the author: Cris Tovani is a native of Colorado and received her degrees from the University of San Diego and the University of Colorado. She is currently doing national consulting and teaching work and serving as a literacy coach full time at Overland High School. "I think my draw to teaching and professional development is this challenge, to figure out what kids need and then how to help them 'get better' at whatever it is they are trying to learn. |
