SRP 2013 REVIEW: Another book I'd like to give a 3 1/2 stars rating. It was very different from his other books. I got a bit bogged down and came back to it later. I'm glad I finished it, but it wasn't quite as compelling as his other writing. Still, it was an interesting subject and he did a good job on it. This covers the time period of the Dodd family going to Berlin as U.S. Ambassador and the rising of the Nazi regime and Hitler. It was interesting seeing that period through their eyes.

SRP 2013 REVIEW: Very interesting as all of Larson's books are. Gives great insight on what possibly could have been done to stop Hitler's continual ascent and the eventual World War. Not as good as Isaac's Storm nor Devil and the White City, but the intricate detail that Larson put in his works is impressive.

SRP 2012 REVIEW: This is my first expereince with narrative history. Larson gathers primary sources to piece together what it was like for William Dodd and his family when he was the American Embassador to Germany right before Hitler took over. It had a suspenseful tone but was reflective. The book should have had a chronlology for those of us not up on our world history, but my ignorance is not Larson's fault! I would recommend it for its writing style and attention to the minute details of another view on the tragedies of Hitler.
